The Band
The Coop was formed in 2004 when musical peers from the Chicago suburbs combined forces in a mysterious old shack, putting their wide array of musical experiences to use in an improvisational setting. The group’s initial practice space became a second home for local music fanatics and inspired a name that continues the memory of this meaningful location. Since then, a few lineup changes, countless live performances, two recorded albums, and constant evolution have transformed the band into a multi-styled musical kaleidoscope.

Drawing inspiration from jazz, reggae, rock, funk, and electronic music, The Coop constructs a unique set at every performance by balancing both improvisation and composition. Crowds can expect to see and hear the group's four musicians create collective music through a multitude of instruments and gadgetry. However, what really shines through is the communication between The Coops members as they weave through complex arrangements laden with pumping electronic grooves, catchy melodies, and high energy solos. The group is also sometimes accompanied by live painters, fire spinners, and other visual performers.

Over the last few years, The Coop's efforts have been met with new opportunities for the young musicians. They were selected from a large pool of submissions to record a song that would be featured on the 2008 compilation for University of Illinois student run-record company Green Street Records. Also, The Coop has played pre-shows for moe. and STS9, shared the stage with acts including Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, Hot Buttered Rum, and Family Groove Company, and performed sets at the 2008 Strip Mines Music Festival, 2009 Summer Camp Music Festival, and The Taste of Chicago.
